With the Games only a couple of days old and still awaiting its official opening Ceremony this evening, the first world records have already been broken – by the South Korean archery team.
Visually-impaired Im Dong-hyun set a new record in the individual ranking round as he knocked three points off the 72 arrow world record with a score of 696.
Along with tea mates Kim Bubmin and Oh Jin-hyek, set a new record in the team event as well as the trio managed to shave no fewer than 18 points off the 216 arrow event with a score of 2087.
The South Korean archery team is widely regarded as the finest in the sport in the world, and has won no less than 16 medals in the Olympic sport since the Los Angeles Summer Games of 1984.
