Australian Open: Andy Murray wants a break from tennis after defeat

Andy Murray wants to get home to his dog and girlfriend and live a 'normal' life after his Australian Open defeat to Serbia’s Novak Djokovic on the weekend.

Murray was beaten by a crushing defeat of 6-4, 6-2, 6-3; meaning that the Scot now has lost all of his three Grand Slam final appearances in straight sets.

After the match, Murray said: “Right now I am disappointed, but I’m looking forward to spending time at home.

“I’ve been away for two months, and that is a long time to be away from home, so I’m looking forward to getting back to seeing friends, family, my dog, and doing all the normal stuff I like doing.”

So has Murray had enough of the tennis life?



“I am very lucky to be playing tennis, but I enjoy the other parts of my life as well,” he said after the match.



“I’m sure a guy like Federer, he’s got family and stuff at home, and he doesn’t want to think about tennis all the time.



He also admitted he won’t be keen to get back into his regular training sessions while he’s at home. 



"You don’t want to go on the practice court. I want to spend time with my girlfriend, chill out and get away from the court.

”

Murray is the fourth-ever male player in the world to have lost his first three Grand Slam finals in the era of the Open tournaments.



Goran Ivanisevic, Ivan Lendl and Andre Agassi were the three before him, but they all won at least one major each later in their life.
