Jamie Oliver has launched a new restaurant area at Gatwick. It includes a Jamie’s Italian, a Jamie’s Italian Bakery and a Union Jacks Bar serving an all-British menu.
The Union Jacks site at Gatwick – the first stand-alone Union Jacks Bar to launch in the UK - has a bar on the balcony of the North Terminal, serving a British menu, with small plates such as scotch eggs and dishes accompanied by homemade pickles.
The bar also has an 'open' beer cellar, offering an all British wine list and a large number of UK sourced/produced beers. Union Jacks is ideal place for grazing, nibbling and drinking before a flight.
The very first Jamie’s Italian Bakery has a wide choice of freshly baked items from homemade pizzas, focaccias and filled sandwiches to cookies and brownies as well as freshly prepared salads, fruit and yoghurts. Bread will be baked throughout the night, onsite by professional bakers and in the morning homemade jams will be provided.
Jamie Oliver & Guy Stephenson, CCO of Gatwick Airport
Oliver said: “Opening this restaurant in the airport is a new and exciting step to take. Whether you want to dine in the Italian, grab food for the flight from the bakery, or savour some good old Blighty grub before you jet off, this is something really special, just for Gatwick.”
Occupying 6,000 sq ft, the restaurant area includes a kitchen 40% bigger than other Jamie’s Italian restaurants, and the largest within the airport – it also has a gas supply which is a first for Gatwick and something the airport will be looking to extend to other food and beverage outlets.
The restaurants will be open to passengers boarding the first flight of the day, and will stay open until after after the last flight departs.
