Madeleine McCann’s parents have spoken of their fear that their daughter may never be found.

Since three year old Madeleine disappeared – feared abducted – while on holiday in Portugal in 2007, Kate and Gerry McCann have spent three years and thousands of pounds on a worldwide search for their daughter.

However, the McCanns revealed yesterday that the fund they set up to help the ongoing search for their daughter may run out of money by 2012.

Kate, 42 said: “When the money runs out we will not be able to pay the investigators helping us to find Madeleine, It will be just me and Gerry left looking for her.

"I have to face the fact that we may never find her."

With funds drying up the McCanns have penned an open letter to friends and celebrity supporters asking for financial help.

The couple have also expressed their frustration that the British and Portuguese governments are not doing more to help find Madeleine.

They launched an online petition yesterday calling for a joint review of the case by the UK and Portuguese governments.
