Rebekah Brooks was arrested today in a dawn raid over the phone hacking scandal, along with her millionaire husband, Charlie.

The former News of the World editor was one of six people arrested by the Metropolitan Police this morning. Another is News International head of security Mark Hanna, Sky News reported.

The arrests were made under Operation Weeting, which is looking into the phone hacking scandal, and operating alongside Operation Elveden, which is investigating allegations of payments to police in relation to the scandal.

Rebekah Brooks and Charlie Brooks were arrested at their home in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, on suspicion of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

The Daily Mail reports that the former News International chief executive is being questioned at an Oxfordshire police station, while Charlie Brooks is being interviewed at a Buckinghamshire police station.

Rebekah Brooks is on bail, after being arrested by police investigating phone hacking last July.

On that occasion, she was questioned on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications and on suspicion of corruption.

Charlie Brooks is an old Eton school friend of prime minister David Cameron. When questioned about their friendship earlier this month, the prime minister reportedly said: "I have known Charlie Brooks, the husband of Rebekah Brooks, for over 30 years.

"He is a good friend and he is a neighbour in the constituency. We live a few miles apart."
