Professor Brian Cox, science ragamuffin, D-Ream keyboarist, and the best thing to come out of North West Tonight since Diane Oxberry's smile, has made something of a splash quantifying the bank bailout in stark terms.
During an appearance on BBC's This Week - which is basically The Xtra Factor for Question Time - The Wonders of the Universe presenter said that we've spent more money on the bank bailout than on scientific research since Jesus.
Now, while some pointed out that tax-payers money has only very recently started being put into science, it was nevertheless a striking analogy.
Others went further online, with some suggesting that the bank bailout cost 20 times the amount of money tax payers have spent on scientific research since Jesus was wandering about telling everyone to chill out, or whatever he went on about.
