Production has halted after a fight broke out at the Shanxi factory, thought to build Apple products.
The Foxconn factory confirmed that a ‘personal dispute’ has turned in to a brawl with 2000 members of staff.
The police were called into deal with the incident on Sunday night in the Foxconn dormitory based in Tauyuan. 40 people were injured in the fight.
"The fight is over now … we're still investigating the cause of the fight and the number of workers involved," said Louis Woo, from Foxconn Louis Woo, reported the Guardian.
This is not the first time Foxconn has been reported in the press. Earlier this year another fight at a Chengdu factory, involving 100 people, took place, and last year several Foxconn employee suicides highlighted the company. Since the suicides, the plant has reduced working hours for staff making its consumer electronic devices.
After this week’s fight in Shanxi, 40 people were taken to hospital and some individuals have been arrested. The local authorities are currently investigating why the fight started.
"There are a lot of police at the site now," explained an anonymous Foxconn member of staff to Reuters by phone.
It is unknown as to whether this disturbance will have a major impact on the production of the iPhone 5.
