A girl who was kidnapped two years ago and subjected to a series of sexual assaults and rape has escaped her captors.
The girl, who went missing in Illinois in 2010, was held by a man and his mother and even gave birth to the man's baby during her two-year ordeal.
Now 17, the girl told police in Washington Park that the child she had with her captor was still held in the house.
An armed SWAT team raided the address and recovered the toddler. A 24-year-old man was also arrested.
Washington Park Police Chief David Clark confirmed that it was suspected the man's mother had assisted in the crime. She has also been taken into custody.
As of Thursday evening, no formal charges had been issued, which is why the individuals cannot be named.
The girl told police she had managed to escape with the help of a relative.
She also reported being beaten and sexually assaulted on a near-daily basis.
The girl added that she had been forced by the man and his mother to give a false name to medical professionals during her pregnancy.
However, a neighbour told local TV stations that she had seen the girl coming and going to and from the house regularly, adding: "I didn't think she was being held hostage in the house."
