A world champion swimmer has died after suffering a massive heart attack in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Alexander Dale Oen, 100m breaststroke champion and silver medallist at Beijing 2008, was at a practice session in Arizona when he suffered a fatal heart attack. He was one of Norway’s top hopes for medal glory at this summer’s games.
He had just done a ‘light swim’ and was showing when he suffered the heart attack.
“They found Dale Oen laying partly on the floor, partly on the edge of his bathtub,” the Norwegian Swimming Federation said.
He was taken immediately to Flagstaff medical centre where he was pronounced dead.
