Mitt Romney, the Republican candidate for US president, was loudly booed Wednesday morning at a National Association for Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) convention after saying he would cut Obamacare.

“I’m going to eliminate every nonessential, expensive program I can find. That includes Obamacare,” he said, eliciting a rousing booing from the crowd, while Romney smiled awkwardly at their response.

In the last US election in 2008, President Obama received the support of approximately 95% of the African American population. Around 7 million African Americans would receive coverage under Obamacare.

President Obama is not scheduled to appear at the NAACP, sending Vice President Joe Biden instead to speak Thursday.
