Be prepared for an Aussie invasion of London over the Easter holidays, as holiday makers from Down Under rush to take advantage of a bargain exchange rate.

The Australian dollar is at a 28-year high against the decidedly weak pound and travel industry experts have seen a big increase in bookings for holidays to London.

A typical London scene

London is the top destination for Aussies heading out for an Easter holiday, followed by the slightly more tropical climes of Bali and Thailand, according to Travel.com.au

"There's no doubt the UK is the best value it's been in many, many years," said managing director of Trafalgar Holidays in Sydney, Matt Cameron-Smith.

In turn, the weak pound has led to a drop in the number of UK residents heading to Australia.

490,000 Australians travelled to the UK in 2012, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistic Arrivals and Departures.
