Hartlepool’s captain Peter Hartley scored the winner in the 69th minute of a pulsating encounter, heading home after striker James Poole had give them the early lead.
It is the first time the two players’ have scored in the same game for the bottom placed Hartlepool United who are in danger of slipping into the semi-professional league.
It was Hartley’s eighth league goal for the club since arriving from fellow north-eastern side Sunderland in 2009 while it was Poole’s tenth in all competitions.
It was Hartlepool’s second straight win in the division and proves a boost in their battle against relegation.
Despite the win however the club remain rooted to the bottom of the Npower League One table with just 19 points from 29 games played and a goal difference of negative 26… Which are terrible statistics no matter which way you try and cut them.
Kudos to Messrs. Hartley and Poole though for keeping their club vaguely in the hunt.
