British Ive will receive his knighthood in recognition of his contributions to design and enterprise.
In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Ive credited his father for his design success, calling him “a very good craftsman” who helped him develop an appreciation for attention to detail and quality – attributes that would later mark his own work.
He also cited his work as “definitely the product of a very British design education”.
“Even in high school I was keenly aware of this remarkable tradition that the UK had of designing and making,” Ive said. “It’s important to remember that Britain was the first country to industrialise, so I think there’s a strong argument to say this is where my profession was founded.”
He went on to say that the key to Apple’s success is that it strives to “develop products that seem somehow inevitable. That leave you with the sense that that’s the only possible solution that makes sense.”
Ive added that “what we’re working on now feels like the most important and the best work we’ve done”.
