The audio recording was released by film scriptwriter Joe Eszterhas, following a biblical battle over their Jewish Braveheart movie, The Maccabees.
Eszterhas accused Mel Gibson last week of “hating Jews” and denying the Holocaust after The Maccabees, which Gibson was to direct, was shelved.
Eszterhas said Gibson, 65, never planned to make his movie about Jewish revolt, rather he pretended to be interested to combat ongoing accusations he’s anti-Semitic.
The shocking recording is said to have been made by Eszterhas’s 15-year-old son at the Gibson home in Costa Rica during a group getaway last December.
In it, Gibson accuses Eszterhas of not having delivered a script, and he launches a tirade against his guests at the home, including his former girlfriend and mother of his child, Oksana Grigorieva, shouting: “I am earning money for a filthy little cocksucker who takes advantage of me! Just like every motherfucker! So hurry the fuck up!”
A loud crashing sound can be heard in the background, which was Gibson reportedly knocking down a totem pole, and it ends with a long series of obscenities.
The firestorm started when The Wrap obtained a private letter Eszterhas sent Gibson detailing grievances over the failed script process. It continued with a denial letter by Gibson and Eszterhas telling NBC’s Today show he had recordings to back up his claims.
In the blistering nine-page letter Eszterhas claims: “You were staring at the photograph of you and Luci, your beautiful little girl … and you suddenly exploded. You hurled your cellphone into a wall and started to scream, ‘I look so fucking old! I look horrible! That fucking whore is destroying me! She’s taking my looks! I hate her! She’s destroying my life!’
“You jumped up, screaming full-throated: ‘Look at me!! Fucking look at me! Look how terrible I look! Answer me, God! Why did you turn your back on me!? Fuck you! Fuck you!’ You stepped a few feet away and screamed into the sky, ‘I’m not gonna take it up the ass anymore and say, ‘Thank you, your honour!'”
Eszterhas concluded in his letter the reason Gibson rejected his script about the Jewish Maccabee revolt in the 2nd Century B.C. was “the ugliest possible one. You hate Jews.”
Eszterhas even claimed Gibson was just out to make the movie “to convert the Jews to Christianity.”
Gibson’s outburst had led to studios dumping his latest movie, Get The Gringo, which was meant to be released in June.
Eszterhas told The Wrap that the recording showed Gibson “badly needs help. My interest isn’t to damage him with this tape but to prevent damage being done to others, starting with Jews, including Oksana and now, I’m sure, me.
“I strongly believe that unless he seeks and receives some kind of psychiatric help, someone is going to get hurt.”
