The survey by search site Skyscanner asked over 1200 travellers to vote in a series of holiday activity categories, including winter sports, luxury escapes, adventure travel and food.
Australia came out on top in seven of the twelve categories, winning a whopping 83% of the vote in the beaches category.
Australia’s winning categories also included best service, luxury holidays, city breaks and sightseeing.
But as we know, Kiwis have excellent snow and mountains – and New Zealand was the firm favourite in the winter sports category gaining 85% of the vote.
New Zealand were also the favourite for romantic escapes, adventure travel, self-drive trips and nature and wildlife.
“Having grown up in New Zealand and having lived in Australia, I understand the amazing experiences both countries can offer for travellers.” said Dave Boyte, Skyscanner’s Market Development Manager for Australia and New Zealand.
“It is hard for New Zealand to compete with Australia’s amazing beaches and global icons like the Opera House, however the Kiwis punch above their weight when it comes to adventure, snow sports and nature.
“The results are close, just like most of the sporting contests between the two countries.”
