The scene: It’s worth running the gauntlet of drug dealers and dodgy types on Acre Lane to arrive at this cosy, colourful faux-Caribbean beach shack.
The grub: The famous Bamboulas goat curry was melt-in-the mouth delicious, and we also enjoyed a well-spiced portion of flamed jerk chicken, followed by rum bread pudding. But our side of plantain wedges was a little on the soggy side.
Behind the bar: The Caribbean theme continues here, with the drinks menu boasting an array of home-made punches (rum, fruit and sorrel to name a few) as well as Jamaican beers Red Stripe and Dragon Stout. The wine list, on the other hand, is fairly limited.
Bill please: Generous sized mains are around £9-£10.
Verdict: Gives recently refurbed rival Negril (just up the road) a run for its money.
