This is a chance for fans to meet the British band taking the international music scene by storm and listen to such hits as Good Grief.
It’s been five years since South Londoner, Dan Smith, started Bastille alone in his bedroom. Relentless gigging, genuine word of mouth and some smartly curated mix-tapes meant that within three years — and with Chris Wood (drums), Will Farquarson (guitar) and Kyle Simmons (keyboards) added to the line-up – Bastille became a global phenomenon.
They took the world by storm in 2013 with the release of their debut album Bad Blood, which entered the UK charts at number one. Nominations for four Brit Awards, two Grammy awards and the Brit Award for the British Breakthrough Act of the Year 2014 quickly followed.
Wild World, the second album, retains the vivid and rich song-writing of its predecessor, but pushes the band’s unique sound in exciting new directions. Lyrically, too, it’s a leap forward.
“If our first album was about growing up and freaking out about it” Dan explains, “Our second is about trying to make sense of the world around you, both as you see it and as it’s presented to you through the media. It’s also about asking questions of the world and of the people in it. We wanted the album to be a bit disorientating – at times extroverted and introverted, light and dark.”
Bastille will appear at: hmv 363 Oxford St, London W1C 2LA, Wednesday 14 September at 18.00.
