Oh, Jiang Wu, what were you drinking?

Wu – who was staying at a Bed and Breakfast in the Eastern Chinese port town of Qingdao – went out on a serious bender and woke up sealed inside a shipping container onboard a freighter bound for Los Angeles; a two week trip by sea.

Talk about a bad hangover.

Despite being sealed in the container, Wu still had his mobile phone with him and he was able to get a signal. According to the Huffington Post, Wu frantically called just about everybody he knew, as well as the local constabulary and tried to explain what had happened.

Having reached the police force, his problems weren’t quite over yet. Wu knew that he was inside a shipping container, on a boat, but he couldn’t say which of the thousands of identical containers stacked on top of one another was his prospective tomb.

“His problem was, though, that he couldn’t tell us which container he was in and there were thousands of them stacked on top of each other,” a police spokesman, told Fairfax News

In the end police and crew members on board the ship had to basically search every bottom crate in the stacks, while Wu banged frantically on the door and sides. He was eventually found and set free.

“He’s very lucky. If he’d been asleep for another hour the next stop would have been America,” one docker said, according to the Daily Star.

Well the ship would have been going to America, Wu on the other hand – without any food or water – would have been going to Heaven… Or Hell, depending on how big that night was.
