Toulon rugby boss Mourad Boudjellal wants to put his new super-signing Willie Mason up against his former star Sonny Bill Williams in a boxing match in France.
At 194cm and 115kg, Mason has 3cm and 7kg over Williams, but Mason hasn’t had a bout yet while Williams had his fourth pro fight over last weekend.
The two former league sensations are mates off the field, and played together in the Bulldogs from 2004-2007 – Mason took Williams under his wing when the Kiwi initially made the Dogs’ first grade side.
“It would be fantastic,” Boudjellal, who is confident of getting 8000 of people to such a fight, said.
However, Williams’ camp offered no comment on the possibility.
Meanwhile, Williams’ latest opponent, 43-year-old Tongan gospel singer Alipate Liava’a, is bring investigated for benefit fraud after claiming he was unable to work due to having tennis elbow. Hard to defend those charges when you’re fighting an All Black on live pay-per-view TV
