The body of 21-year-old backpacker Britt Lapthrone has been flown into Melbourne on a flight with her grieving father and brother.

Dale Lapthorne and son Darren have touched down and been re-united with Britt’s devastated mother Elke after an exhausting mission to Croatia to find the missing university student ended with the discovery of her body.

Britt disappeared in the seaside town of Dubrovnik early on September 18.

On October 6 her badly decomposed and dismembered body was found by a local fisherman in a cove not far from the town-centre nightclub where she was last seen alive.

Britt’s body will now be delivered to the Victorian coroner for a second post-mortem examination following a first examination in Croatia that was inconclusive on cause of death.

Hundreds of people gathered last night in a park in Melbourne’s CBD to hold a candlelight memorial for Britt.

And a public memorial service will be held at Whittlesea City office at 1pm on Wednesday.
