The cases, filed in Pennsylvania, California and New Jersey allege Budweiser has watered down 11 of their beers, including Bud Light Platinum, Black Crown, and the companies flagship Budweiser beer.

“Anheuser-Busch employs some of most sophisticated process control technology in the world to precisely monitor the alcohol content at the final stages of production, and then adds additional water to produce beers with significantly lower alcohol contents than is represented on the the label,” alleges the complaint.

A lawyer for the complaint brought in California is citing ‘whistle blowing former employees’ at forming a key plank the case against the brewer.

Peter Kramer, vice president of brewing at Anheuser-Busch, denies the allegations saying that the company full complies with all alcohol labelling laws.

The cases have sparked a tide of social media reaction, with many Europeans citing the old adage about American mainstream beer, comparing it to ‘having sex in a canoe’.
