Overview Well, it’s a Travelodge, so you already know what to expect from the rooms: no-frills.

Bed, telly, kettle and bar of soap.

Vending machine in the corridor if you want a bottle of water. A Bible on the bedside table if you’re lucky. Not much more to say.

However, as long as you’re not after luxury, this branch, just off Edinburgh’s famed Royal Mile, is actually not a bad place to stay at all.

The front desk staff are easy-going and eager to help out, and the cafe in the lobby is open late and draws quite a crowd of dishevelled travellers, giving it much more atmosphere than you’d expect from a largely sterile chain.

Wow factor The only thing special about this hotel is its location.

You’re five minutes from Edinburgh Castle and just seconds away from a handful of buzzing bars and pubs, which means there is little chance of getting lost on the city’s cobbled streets after a night out. rooms

Utterly (and self-consciously) featureless.

But you can’t expect the last word in comfort when you’re paying such low prices.

And the rooms afford more privacy than a packed-to-the-rafters dorm.
