Citing Debussy and Captain Beefheart as influences, Anna Calvi is the perfect antidote to anodyne popstrels. Brian Eno called her the “biggest thing since Patti Smith”, Nick Cave handpicked her to support his second band Grinderman late last year and the English singer-songwriter’s blues-infused debut LP is an early contender for album of the year. Renowned for her dramatic guitar playing and sultry live performances Calvi’s songs are stormy, atmospheric and utterly beautiful. These will be very special shows indeed.
