The meeting happened right at the height of the phone hacking scandal.
Two days before the Metropolitan Police launched Operation Weeting, Johnson allegedly “dropped in” for coffee at the media mogul’s London home.
Website Political Scrapbook revealed the potential scandal when they discovered that the previously unmentioned meeting had quietly gone live on the City Hall website.
The BBC’s political editor Tim Donovan said “When we asked last July for the full details of all the meetings he had with the Murdochs, his office said that his diary was published online. His diary at the time did not reveal this meeting with Mr Murdoch.”
Boris Johnson has previously described the phone hacking scandal as “a load of codswallop cooked up by the Labour Party”.
The mayor has spent recent weeks in the US promoting his new book on the history of London. He recently told New York magazine “One of the only reasons I want to assume supreme power in England is to make sure that happens…For God’s sake, don’t quote me saying that.”
