Discovery Channel gunman James Jay Lee, a crazed eco-warrior who believed that Discovery is destroying the planet, has been shot dead.

Yesterday, Lee burst into the Discovery Channel headquarters firing shots from a gun and shouting: “Nobody is going anywhere!”

The gunman, who was wearing a bomb vest, kept three people hostage for five hours while police negotiators tried to diffuse the situation.

However, the SWAT team, who had been monitoring Lee on the building’s security cameras, moved in when they saw him pull out a handgun and point it at a hostage.

Lee was gunned down and all the hostages were taken to safety.

Gunman Lee had a longstanding hatred for the Discovery Channel. In February 2008, Lee was arrested for staging a protest there, where he threw thousands of dollars, wrapped in clingfilm, up in the air.

Lee voiced his opinions on savetheplanetprotest.com, which has now been shut down by the police.

He wrote: “Civilization must be the exposed for the filth it is… That means stopping the human race from breeding any more disgusting human babies!

“Saving the environment and the remaining species diversity of the planet is now your mindset… The Lions, Tigers, Giraffes, Elephants, Froggies, Turtles, Apes, Raccoons, Beetles, Ants, Sharks, Bears, and, of course, the Squirrels.

“Civilization must be exposed for the filth it is.”

Lee felt that the Discover Channel is irresponsible in it’s attitude to the environment, writing:

“Only we can demand from the world that they start making positive changes starting with Discovery Channel’s programming.

“If there is ANY network whose responsibility it is to save the planet, it’s the Discovery Channel.

“I want Discovery Communications to broadcast on their channels to the world their new program lineup and I want proof they are doing so. I want the new shows started by asking the public for inventive solution ideas to save the planet and the remaining wildlife on it.”

When Lee was gunned down at least one explosive device was detonated and officers have not found any other bombs in the building, it has been reported.
