As National Apprenticeship Week (14-18 March) gets underway and after a first successful year of the programme, GoSkydive is now looking for a new batch of  courageous candidates to take on the challenge of becoming qualified Tandem Skydive Instructors and Freefall Photographers.

Not for the faint-hearted, the two year programme provides apprentices with a robust skydiving training programme, introducing them to the many different skills required. Apprentices feel the wind in their hair from the get go, completing 100 skydive jumps in just the first six months, and up to a further 200 jumps in the following six months, learning and practicing skills including parachute handling, freefall, camera flying and freefall photography.

The GoSkydive apprenticeship programme not only offers an exhilarating training programme, it also teaches candidates how to deliver a first-class customer experience, in particular for first-timers, which is GoSkydive’s specialism.  Candidates learn all there is to know from sales and marketing, customer service, photography and video editing, health and safety through to the tandem skydive skills themselves. All tandem skydiving licenses and ratings come from the British Parachute Association.

Upon completing year one, apprentices will be fully qualified Freefall Video and Still Photographers, and proficient skydivers by the end of the two year programme – after which, it can be the start of a long and fruitful career in an industry where everyone loves their job.  GoSkydive also offers great career progression options, with apprentices being able to go on to take the Tandem Instructors Rating and qualify as Tandem Skydive Instructors – and the career prospects don’t end there, with many other exciting opportunities becoming available, such as gaining a commercial pilot’s license.

Edd King a GoSkydive apprentice who joined the programme last year, said: “I still can’t believe that something so amazing can actually be a career. This apprenticeship gives me the opportunity to pursue my love of skydiving in a way I never thought possible.”

Gordon Blamire, founder and Managing Director for GoSkydive, commented: “We’re very excited to be looking for a new bunch of recruits to join our apprenticeship programme. We developed and launched the world’s first Tandem Skydive Instructor apprenticeship programme last year, and after a successful first year, we’re now looking ahead to welcome our next generation of instructors.

“National Apprenticeship Week is a great opportunity for recently graduated or undecided higher education leavers to consider skydiving as a career path. Our apprenticeship programme not only covers tandem skydive skills but also provides apprentices’ with various other skill sets from sales to video editing, as well as opening up many different career avenues. Being a Tandem Skydive Instructor is such a fulfilling job – you get to give people unforgettable memories while doing what you love on a daily basis. There really is no other job in the world like it.”

Potential GoSkydive Tandem Skydive Instructors will not only need to be tough enough to gain the required qualifications, they will also need to demonstrate they can deal with a range of emotions that first time skydivers can bring. The reasons behind customers’ jumps can vary from celebrating big birthdays, weddings or anniversaries, raising money for charity, corporate team building events or just because they are adrenaline junkies. But the common factor shared amongst these jumpers, is that for the majority, it will be their first tandem skydive and is likely to be a once in a lifetime experience. GoSkydive instructors will need to be able to deliver the best experience for every customer, every time – and learn how best to cope with some potentially very nervous customers.

To qualify for the GoSkydive apprenticeship programme, candidates should have recently completed tertiary education or have work experience in a relevant field.  They should also demonstrate strong leadership and people skills with a positive ‘can-do’ attitude in order to deliver GoSkydive’s excellent levels of customer service and experience. With only a limited number of apprenticeship positions available, candidates will really need to stand out from the crowd to get noticed. To apply, candidates should submit their CV along with a two minute video, explaining why they have what it takes to become a GoSkydive apprentice.
