With a line-up featuring Jay-Z and Rihanna, and a crowd sure to be made up of London’s hipster elite, tickets for the gig are in the same echelon as entry to the Olympics.
The June 23-24 BBC Radio 1–organised event is free but festival enthusiasts had to register last week in order to have a chance of snaring their entry document.
Although released at 11am today, the first allocation had been snapped up by lunchtime.
Those desperately hitting the refresh button on their browsers were taunted with a message informing them that the site was ‘currently experiencing high volumes of traffic’, and asked to keep refreshing .
The ones that missed out vented their rage online, hating the fact that they may not get the chance to wander around
@fronnqlvnx0 wrote: “BBC are raging me I want my tickets for Hackney Weekender”
And @Rosie_Eliz tweeted: “Trying to figure out the Hackney Weekender website is actually madness.”
But another Twitter user seemed to have some perspective on what was happening – or perhaps they were just basking in the smugness securing tickets brings.
“To people genuinely complaining: they’re giving away free tickets, what did you expect to happen?” the person tweeted.
A second allocation of tickets will be released at 4pm tomorrow.
