Starring: Will Smith, Charlize Theron, Jason Bateman

Is it just me or are trailers now officially better than movies? They’re shorter, better edited and heaps funnier. Self-indulgent directors take note.

The Hancock trailer was great. Will Smith threw a beached whale into the ocean and hit a boat. Funny stuff.

Pity I can’t say the same for the film. Hancock starts off as comedy — about a drunk, rude superhero who saves a PR executive and starts to work on his public image — but then there’s a twist and soon you’re watching a drama. Not a very good one either, mind.

Don’t watch this expecting a) a superhero film b) a cool action film or c) to make sense of the last half. REBECCA GALTON
