The German-born Project Runway presenter and the British crooner described the split as amicable in a statement.

The news will come as a surprise to many as Seal and Klum appeared to have one of the steadiest marriages in celebville.

The pair were known for their increasingly inventive fancy dress outfits on Halloween, and displays of affection on the red carpet.

They have also renewed their vows in an elaborate ceremony every year since marrying.

In a joint statement, they said: “While we have enjoyed seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage, after much soul-searching we have decided to separate.”

The statement continued: “We have had the deepest respect for one another throughout our relationship and continue to love each other very much, but we have grown apart.”

They have three children together, as well as a fourth from Klum’s previous relationship, and insisted that the childrens’ wellbeing was the top priority.

According to Forbes magazine, Klum earned £13 million last year. The Daily Telegraph newspaper reports that it is unclear how much Seal earned, but he has sold more than 20 million albums and won three Grammys over his 20-year career.

The newspaper speculated that the division of assets could be a complicated process, while the Daily Mail went further and predicted a divorce “battle”.
