The imposing building has all the charm of Seventies industrialisation, and the dripping tap in my room is never fixed, despite two reports to staff. The key cards don’t work if they get too close to a laptop or mobile phone – annoying the sixth time I have to go to reception to activate mine, and go through security questions again. However, the staff are incredibly friendly, and you’re in Barbados – just five minutes from the island’s capital, Bridgetown – so you’re not here to spend time in the hotel – get out and explore.
Wow factor The location. The view of the Caribbean Sea is stunning – take a stroll along the white-sand beach, and dip your toes in the too-blue water with a drink in hand. Paradise.
Rooms The standard rooms are pretty much what they say on the label – ‘standard’. And they’re geared towards the business traveller, with a desk and a cable for “high-speed internet access” – there’s no wifi available, only in the lobby and executive lounge.
