Celebrating the ‘Joy of Storage’ as a means to presenting and preserving the treasures the nation holds dear, the exhibition includes collectors of toy soldiers, retro fashion, magazines and Spice Girls memorabilia all housed and styled in the IKEA product that best showcases it to the world.
Completely free of charge, guests can visit any time between 9am and 5pm to see the amazing collectors on display and chat to storage specialists on-hand to explain the best way of presenting cherished possessions and beloved memorabilia.
Hosted at Dalston’s ‘The Proud Archivist’, aka one of London’s top independent gallery spaces, ‘The Collection’ is open to the public from 21-23 January 2016.
Elevating storage from the functional to the joyful, ‘The Collection’ is IKEA’s first foray into the world of exhibitions and showcases the retailer’s passion for making the everyday more wonderful. Stacks of magazines, wardrobes of cherished clothing and drawers of trinkets are just some of the collections in every home that tell the story of who we are – shining a light onto the things we hold dear. By making the most of storage, IKEA is seeking to show how possible it is to elevate these minutiae of the heart into art that decorates every room in the house.
