He will be joined by Brian Stokes Mitchell, the pair of them cast as the gay adoptive fathers of Rachel Berry, Hiram and LeRoy.
Due to debut in Glee’s special Valentine’s Day episode entitled “Heart”, both actors are expected to sing in their roles.
For Jeff Goldblum, the new role is far removed from his best-known performances in Law and Order: Criminal Intent and Jurassic Park. He is also a jazz pianist and made his Broadway debut in 1971 in the Tony-winning musical Two Gentlemen of Verona.
Mitchell does best on stage, having appeared in the theatre shows Man La Macha and Ragtime. He won a Tony Award in 2000 for ‘Best Actor’ in Kiss Me Kate. Mitchell has also had guest roles in Frasier and Ugly Betty.
The announcements follow huge anticipation over who would fill the roles after Glee’s executive producer Ryan Murphy said earlier this month he was casting two actors to play Rachel’s dads.
At the time, he said that “so many people” were interested in the roles.
Elton John was initially mooted, but Murphy revealed the gay musician was unavailable due to his touring commitments.
