Jermain Defoe returns home from Euro 2012 after father dies

Defoe came on in England’s second warm up friendly against Belgium at Wembley last weekend, but was not expected to start in the team’s first Euro campaign game against France on Monday.  

It is not clear whether Defoe will return to the team for the championships.   

A statement on Defoe’s Premier League club Tottenham’s official wesite said:

“Jermain Defoe has returned home from the England squad base in Poland this morning after receiving the sad news of the passing away of his father overnight.

“Everyone at the club pases their sincere condolences to Jermain and his family.”
