The Jim’ll Fix It star’s gold-coloured casket featuring a crucifix was brought in a hearse to Queens Hotel in Leeds this morning.

The late broadcaster was then carried inside along a red carpet.

Members paid their respects to the star in the hotel bar this afternoon.

The casket was adorned with wreaths of white roses and two biographies from This is Your Life plus two of his unfinished cigars lay on a table beside it.

Smiling pictures of the late star surrounded the 7ft American-style casket.

A Requiem Mass will be held at St Anne’s Cathedral in Leeds tomorrow after his coffin has been driven past several significant places in the city – such as Leeds General Infirmary where he worked as a porter and donated millions towards research.

Savile will be buried on Thursday in Scarborough, where he visited for years and had a flat.

He will be buried wearing a Royal Marines beret, for being one of only two civilians to finish a sponsored 30-mile speed march across Dartmoor in 1969.

The children’s TV presenter was found dead in his flat in Roundhay, Leeds last Saturday, just two days before he turned 85.
