Broadcast on state television, the occasion was part of a ceremony to mark the anniversary of the death of his grandfather, Kim Il-Sung, who died 20 years ago.

Sky News reported that the incident has not been acknowledged by the North Korean authorities and it is unusual for the regime to show the country’s leader displaying anything other than perfect health.

He did not speak at the event but listened to the country’s nominal head of state Kim Yong Nam who hailed the late Kim Il-Sung as ‘the greatest leader in human history’.

Kim Il-Sung, the founding leader of North Korea, ruled the county from its establishment in 1948 until his death in 1994.

He was succeeded by Kim Jong-Un’s father, Kim Jong-Il – who died in December 2011. Power was then transferred to the youngest Kim.

The Supreme Leader was not filmed leaving the ceremony, which was broadcast live.
