Two men have gone on trial in Kenya over the slaying of New Zealand photographer Trent Keegan.

Keegan, 33, was found dead in a trench in capital Nairobi on May 28.

Muchiri Kariuki and Amos Kamau are accused of his murder and robbery.

A court was told last week that Keegan died after being hit on the head from behind.

His laptop and cellphone were taken during the attack.

There was no sign of a struggle.

Keegan was on an assignment in Kenya from his base in Ireland when he was killed.

His previously worked as a carpenter in his home town of New Plymouth.
