The scene: Lambourne’s slick yet homely interior makes it an excellent setting for a night out. Thumbs up for efficient, friendly staff and table service.

The grub: For an eatery calling itself a grill, the steaks turned out to be rather tame. The fillet was too tough for us, and the side salad was nothing more than a plate of lettuce – disappointing.

Behind the bar: The bar is stocked with wines, beer (on tap and bottled), and an impressive cocktail menu that could rival some of London’s finest bars, plus great happy hour prices from 5pm-8pm on weekdays.

Bill please: Mains range from £8-£15, but for steaks you’d want to order a side dish (chips, salad or veg), setting you back an extra £1.95.

Verdict: They know how to run a bar, but the food could with a little bit of love.
