Lindsay Lohan will face jail if she pleads guilty to stealing a $25,000 necklace, a judge warned the Hollywood starlet yesterday.

“I don’t care that you are Lindsay Lohan,” LA Judge Keith Schwartz told the troubled actress. “This case does involve jail time, period. If you plead in front of me — if this case resolves in front of me — you are going to jail. It may be an issue as to amount of time.”

Lohan was appearing in court again over the alleged theft of a $2,500 gold necklace from a Los Angeles jewellery store in January.

Lindsay Lohan pleads not guilty to theft

The 24-year-old actress was charged on February 9 with grand theft. She pleaded not guilty.

Lohan, who appeared in court yesterday wearing a low cut top, has been offered a plea bargain and has until March 10 to decide whether to accept it and to go to jail or reject it. If she rejects the plea bargain the case will go to trial with Lohan facing the possibliity of a much stiffer sentence.

The actress, who is currently on probation for a 2007 drunk driving offence, could face up to three years in jail if convicted on the grand theft charge.

She will appear in court again on March 10.
