The village, which is to house 16,000 athletes, officials and other assorted athletic folk during this summer’s games, began in 2008 and has been completed already, allowing plenty of time to ensure they are kitted out in fine style with all the furnishings and fittings.
Four-time Olympic rowing hero Matthew Pincent was on hand to deliver the first (of 16,000) bed today. Let’s hope he bent at the knees and not at the back!
When the Olympics and Paralympics are over, though, the village is to be converted in to 2,800 residential properties, with just shy of 50% of these intended to be used as affordable housing too.
