Murray is in the third round of the men’s tennis  ingles after defeating Finland’s Jarkko Nieminen 6-2, 6-4. Robson is into round two of the women’s event.

Today Robson and Heather Watson were beaten in the women’s doubles first round, while Murray and brother Jamie also lost at the same stage of the men’s event.

However one of the events wildcards was handed to Britain, meaning that Murray and Robson will pair up to play Czechs Lucie Hradecka and Radek Stepanek on Wednesday. The GB pair need two wins to have a shot at a medal in the 16-team draw.

Murray and Robson have played together at two previous tournaments, the Hopman Cup in Australia in 2010 and 2011. The event first appeared in the Olympics in 1924, when the gold medal was won by America’s Hazel Wightman and Richard Williams, a survivor of the Titanic disaster.

The other London 2012 wildcards went to Austria’s Lleyton Hewitt and Samantha Stosuz, Mikhail Youzhny and Elena Vesnina of Russia, and Sweden’s Robert Lindstedt and Sofia Arvidsson.
