Walker finished fourth over the three-race semi-final to win her place in this afternoon’s BMX final.
The New Zealand BMX star barely had time to gather her wits before the final began but she was on form and Kiwi spectators gave her a big cheer as she crossed the finish line in second place to take gold.
New Zealand BMX coach Ken said yesterday that he approved of the London 2012 BMX course and thought it would suit Kiwi riders.
“When it was originally built I think it was built for the fans, they wanted (it) to be a show, but it’s been tamed down – it’s now a racer’s track. It’s a work of art out there, it’s a beautiful course,” he said.
