X Factor judge Louis Walsh has been cleared over false claims of sexual assault in a nightclub toilet.
The 58-year-old expressed his relief today as it was revealed that a 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of knowingly making a false report to police.
The man had accused Walsh of indecently assaulting him in a toilet after they met in a bar at the Russell Court hotel after a Westlife concert in Dublin.
Walsh said: "I have been informed by An Garda Siochana that I am now no longer under investigation.
"I have robustly maintained from the outset that this alleged incident did not occur.
"This has been a hugely distressing time for me but I would like to thank all my friends and colleagues for their support and I am now just looking forward to getting back to work."
The 24-year-old man is being questioned by police in Dublin. The penalty for making false claims ranges from a £450 fine to five years in jail.
Simon Cowell expressed his support for Walsh when the claims were made.
He told The Sun: "I have known Louis Walsh for 20 years and I don't believe for a second that these allegations are true.
"I feel very sorry for him. I've spoken to him today and he is really upset. It's horrible.
"Like all of his close friends I will support him 100 per cent."
