Madonna has been at a screening of Brit Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave, staring Chiwetel Ejiofor, at the New York Film Festival but insisted on  tapping away at her mobile phone during the film.

One fellow filmgoer even asked Madonna to stop to which it is reported she replied that it was for business and, we presume, her right to do so. Others though different.

“Until she apologises to movie fans, Madonna is banned from watching movies,” tweeted Alamo Drafthouse co-founder and CEO Tim League of the star’s behaviour who later admitted in an interview with US magazine Entertainment Weekly that it was an off the cuff Twitter remark that had taken on a life of its own. He did add though that despite this, ”I’m going to enforce it!”

The film Madonna had been watching 12 Years A Slave is directed by hotshot Brit filmmaker Steve McQueen (Shame) and stars Ejiofor as a free black man sold in to slavery. It is based on Solomon Northup’s 1853 autobiography.

The film is currently showing at the London Film Festival and can be seen on October 18, 19 and 20.
