A 74-year-old man has arrived back in Sydney after being extradited from Hong Kong over the stabbing of an elderly couple in their home earlier this year.
Detectives escorted the man on a Qantas flight from Hong Kong, touching down at Sydney airport just before 9am (AEDT) today.
The man is being questioned at the Sydney Police Centre, where he is expected to be charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
It is alleged the man boarded a flight for Hong Kong hours after the double stabbing at the couple’s Beverly Hills home in Sydney’s south-west on August 28.
An 80-year-old wheelchair-bound man and a 71-year-old woman were stabbed several times in the back, head and chest after the woman answered the door of their Warraroong Street home about 8am.
They were treated at St George hospital for serious injuries.
A short time later, the 74-year-old boarded a flight out of Sydney but was arrested upon arrival at Hong Kong Airport by local authorities, police said.
