A man who was found injured in a Wairarapa park on Wednesday has been airlifted to Wellington Hospital for treatment.
Detective Sergeant Bill Van Woerkom of Masterton Police CIB, said the man, whose identity was not yet known, had head and facial injuries and his condition was described as serious but stable.
The man was found lying in bushes at Featherston Park near the RSA in central Featherston about 7am.
It was not known how the man was injured or how long he had been lying on the ground, police said, but it was believed he might have been assaulted.
Parts of Fitzherbert and Fox streets remained cordoned off this afternoon while police searched the park for indications on what might have happened.
“We don’t know as yet who the man is. He’s European, possibly in his 30s to 40s, has very short brown hair,” Van Woerkom said.
“When he was found he was wearing khaki coloured camouflage style trousers, a blue jacket and brown shoes.”
People who had any information about who the man was or how and when he was injured were asked to contact Masterton police.
