The ‘tanning booth’ was installed to combat the lack of natural sunlight in Manchester, which enjoys 140 days of rain a year on average, in a new study carried out by the Harvard Business School in Boston, USA.
The study, entitled ‘Sir Alex Ferguson: Managing Manchester United’: “He [Ferguson] could talk enthusiastically about the new Vitamin D machine in the players’ dressing room at [training ground] Carrington, put there to help them counterbalance the lack of sunlight in Manchester, or his plan for the new season to give players staggered one-week breaks in the winter months to replenish their Vitamin D.”
