Matthew Wright asked viewers “Foxy Knoxy. Would ya?” suggesting that although Amanda Knox is “hot” and likes “wild sex” many men would think twice before going home with her.

The Wright Stuff segment, on this morning's Channel 5 programme, was slammed on Twitter with many feeling that asking if men would sleep with the Knox, cleared last night of the murder of Meredith Kercher, was in the worst possible taste.

“Tomorrow on the Wright Stuff – Myra Hindley – Hang her or Bang Her?” wrote one Twitter user.

In a monologue on his show, Wright said: “She's entirely innocent of the murder of Meredith Kercher and foxy as hell, so what I want to know this morning is: If you met Amanda Knox in a bar and she invited you back to her room – would ya?”

In another bit of below-the-belt journalism, blurb on the Channel 5 website read:

“So Amanda Knox has been cleared of the murder of British student Meredith Kercher. She’s entirely innocent. She’s also undeniably fit and loves wild sex. Or did.

“So if you were a guy who’d met her in a bar and she invited you back to hers, would you go? I’m being quite serious. Or would something in your brain make you think twice?”

On outcry ensued on Twitter, with media rights expert Andrew Livingston calling Wright’s subject, “possibly the most crass topic in history."

“Scraping the barrel and enormously insensitive,” tweeted another person.

In reference to Jodie Marsh’s recent appearance as an uber-tanned body builder, another Twitter user wrote:

“Because of Jodie Marsh and The Wright Stuff, I have run out of sick.”

Wright himself has defended his decision, telling Metro:

"I thought it would be interesting to find out if mud sticks, or whether an innocent young woman could now go out and behave in a perfectly normal way. The real disgrace is the Foxy Knoxy epithet."
