Lucy Elliott, now 31, wrote the letter during a family trip to Looe in Cornwall when she was 12 years old.

She had been searching the beach for a lost bracelet when she became fed up and decided to pen the note.

She stuffed it into a plastic drinks bottle and threw it into the English Channel.

The Northampton Chronicle and Echo reports the note was found 1207km away, near Hauge on the south coast of Norway, by Kurt Johnny Haaland when he was out hiking.

Lucy had written her name and address and said: “I have two cats, one brother. Please write back. From a bored 12-year-old girl.”

Lucy, from Woodford Halse, Northants, said: “It’s incredible. I can remember writing it like it was yesterday.”
