Neko Case (Anti)
Case has long been a captivating performer with a formidable voice.
Her songwriting talents, however, have proved harder to harness.
Songs such as People Got A Lotta Nerve hang together nicely, but Middle Cyclone suffers a little from her usual problem of words that do too much wedded to tunes that do too little.
The album’s highlight is a cover: a spare but beautiful version of Harry Nilsson’s Don’t Forget Me, built on an orchestra of eight pianos. WILL FULFORD-JONES
