The large group of tourists were near Eldgjá canyon in southern Iceland when one of the group went off to change her clothing. When she returned, the group didn’t recognise her and thought she had gone missing.
Word spread that a passenger was missing – but hilariously, the woman failed to recognise that the person being described was herself.
Around 50 people were involved in the search for the missing mystery lady for several hours until it dawned on the searchers that she was already accounted for. One of Iceland’s coastguard helicopters was on standby ready to join the farcical hunt.
